Gorilla Leisure Lodge

Set amid the misty hills surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Gorilla Leisure Lodge provides an intimate base for travellers visiting the southern Rushaga sector. The lodge combines polished wood, local stone, eucalyptus and traditional basket-reed details with modern comforts, creating a property that feels contemporary without losing its connection to the surrounding Bakiga landscape. 

The lodge has 12 rooms, including deluxe singles and doubles together with larger family cottages. Rooms feature forest or mountain views, balconies or terraces, en-suite bathrooms with hot water and comfortable African-inspired interiors. The family cottage is particularly useful for travellers with children, offering two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living area and an outdoor terrace. 

Its position is one of its most practical advantages: the lodge states that it is approximately five minutes' walk from the gorilla trekking starting point in Rushaga. That makes it a convenient choice for guests undertaking standard gorilla trekking or the area's extended Gorilla Habituation Experience. 

After a day in the forest, guests can unwind at the spa and wellness centre, enjoy a massage or treatment, relax in the lounge and bar, or dine in the forest-facing restaurant. The lodge's cuisine uses seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, with Ugandan and international dishes available. 

The property also places strong emphasis on responsible tourism through local employment, community involvement, nature conservation and reforestation initiatives. Its restaurant and buildings incorporate locally available materials, including volcanic ash, rock and eucalyptus, with traditional Bakiga-inspired construction details.
