GENERAL OVERVIEW
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta Conservancy is one of Kenya's leading private wildlife conservation areas and a pioneering example of integrated conservation.
Established in 2004, the conservancy evolved from a working cattle ranch into a model that combines wildlife conservation, tourism, livestock management and community development.
Ol Pejeta is particularly renowned for its commitment to rhino conservation. It is home to the world's last two northern white rhinos, while also protecting significant populations of black and southern white rhinos.
Beyond rhinos, the conservancy supports an impressive range of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and numerous other species.
One of Ol Pejeta's defining attractions is the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which provides a refuge for rescued chimpanzees and is the only sanctuary of its kind in Kenya. The conservancy also offers visitors the opportunity to participate in specialised conservation experiences, including lion tracking, dog tracking, rhino monitoring, night game drives and guided bush walks.
For travellers interested in wildlife beyond conventional game drives, Ol Pejeta provides a deeper connection with conservation, endangered species protection and the people working to safeguard Kenya's wildlife.
